Chandigarh, June 26

Reacting to the Sangrur bypoll result, Opposition parties, including the Congress, SAD and the BJP, today said it was a rejection of the AAP government that had failed to fulfil its promises.

Will keep working diligently: CM Mann

I accept the verdict of the people. I am working honestly and diligently for the progress of Punjab and will keep doing so.

Low turnout to blame for defeat: AAP

Poor turnout is major reason for the defeat. The outcome is contrary to our expectations, but we accept the mandate. — Malvinder Singh Kang, AAP Spokesman

PCC president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said the party humbly accepted the people’s verdict. “The result reflects displeasure of the people with AAP for its inept governance. It’s actually a verdict against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who has been running the show from behind the scenes,” he said. Congress legislature party leader Partap Bajwa said: “This is a message to Arvind Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha to stop remote controlling Punjab and treating it like their colony to serve their personal interests.”

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said the party bowed before the mandate of the people. BJP state unit president Ashwani Sharma said the verdict had exposed AAP that “failed” to fulfil its promises. The party would suffer a worse defeat in 2024 parliamentary elections, he added.
