Chandigarh, January 21

On the occasion of the consecration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a replica of the temple along with an idol of Lord Ram will be installed at the city Mayor’s office on Monday.

Outgoing Mayor Anup Gupta has decided to hold a small ceremony as well. Five diyas will be lit and a priest will perform a ceremony before placing the replica and idol in the office.

“The long wait for the temple is finally coming to an end in Ayodhya. The entire country is celebrating the day with religious fervour. On the same lines, I have decided to have a temple’s replica and Lord Ram’s idol in the office,” said Gupta.

“We also organised three-day mega celebrations in Sector 34 where poet Kumar Vishwas and devotional singer Kanhiya Mittal performed. A replica of the temple still stands there and is a visual treat for people,” he said.

When asked if the next Mayor decides to remove the idol and replica from the office, he said, “It is his or her wisdom, what can I say?”

Reacting to the move, city Congress president HS Lucky said, “We have no objection. But the BJP should give same respect and space to all religions. They should also take inspiration from Lord Ram’s life and teachings and follow the same in the MC.”
