Coaching excellence

I always wanted to do something for poor students. After working in a number of MNCs, I left the job and thought of coaching underprivileged students. I then gave the proposal of Super-100 to the Haryana Government—Naveen Mishra, NGO Director

The ‘Super 100’ programme started in 2018 when 100 students of non-medical and medical streams of Haryana Government schools were chosen for free coaching at Rewari and Panchkula, respectively. There are 48 students of non-medical streams at both the centres.

In the Rewari batch, two students have got above 99 percentile and eight have secured above 98 percentile. As many as 20 students have scored above 95 percentile and overall there are 34 students who have secured above 90 percentile.

Among those who sat for JEE Main from the Rewari batch, seven are from the SC category and 17 are from the backward class.

As many as 13 students are wards of labourers while fathers of two students are drivers. Two students are wards of carpenters while another student’s father is a watchman and 20 come from farming households.

Simran of Rohtak is the topper of first ‘Super-100’ batch with 99.47 percentile. Following her is Kajal of Fatehabad, who has scored 99.31 percentile. Both are from disadvantaged sections and come from farming households. As many as 47 out of 48 in Rewari batch are expected to qualify for JEE Advanced.

In April 2018, Naveen Kumar Mishra, Director of Vikalp Foundation, an NGO, gave a proposal to the Haryana Education Department to provide free coaching to meritorious students on the pattern of Super-30 of Bihar. Rajiv Rattan, the then Director of Secondary Education, and Ramnarayan Kaushik, the then Director, Elementary Education, played an important role in giving shape to this idea.

An exam was conducted in June 2018 to select students for this programme. Only those students who had scored above 80% marks in Class 10th were allowed to sit for this exam. Around 5,000 students took the exam and 500 of them were chosen for the training. They were given five-day training and out of them 200 students were finally selected. Out of this, 100 students are being given coaching in Rewari by Vikalp and another 100 are taking coaching in Panchkula by Ace Tutorials.

“I always wanted to do something for poor students. After working in a number of MNCs, I left the job and thought of providing coaching to poor and underprivileged students. I then gave the proposal of Super-100 to the Haryana Government,” said Mishra, who hails from Bihar and an IIT-Delhi alumnus.
