Ambala, January 20

A youth was stripped and thrashed by some people in Jain Market at Ambala City today for allegedly making obscene gestures at minor girls.

A girl had informed her mother that a youth made obscene gestures at her following which she refused to go to school. The woman consoled her minor daughter and followed her in the morning along with other family members. As the girl, along with two other minor girls, was passing through a street, they noticed the youth making obscene gestures at the girls. The kin held the youth, stripped him and thrashed him.

The woman said, “The youth used to make obscene gestures and hold the hands of my daughter. My daughter had an exam today, but she was not ready to go to school. When I asked her the reason, she told me about this youth following which we decided to teach him a lesson.” The suspects works in a shop at the market.

Videos of the youth being stripped and thrashed went viral on the social media.

A local resident said, “The suspect had no remorse and strict action should be taken against him.”

The suspect's brother reached the police station and said his brother was in his 30s and was yet to get married. He was mentally fit and appropriate action should be taken against him if he had made such a mistake.

The SHO of the women police station, Sunita Dhaka, said, “There was no prior complaint against this youth. Today, he was produced by family members of the minor girl. A case has been registered under Section 12 of the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the IPC on a complaint of the minor’s mother. He will be produced before a court tomorrow.”

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jorwal said, “The matter has come to our notice. Appropriate action will be taken against the person, but stripping a person in the market is also not right and action will be initiated against those who stripped him if a complaint is received against them.”
