Author Ronnie Govender passes away in S Africa

Johannesburg: Ronnie Govender, an internationally acclaimed Indian-origin author and playwright known for his books and theatre efforts reflecting the difficulties of the Indian and African communities under apartheid, has died of age-related illness. He was 87. Govender, who died in South Africa’s city of Cape Town on Thursday, was the recipient of the Order of Ikhamanga, among the country’s highest national orders. PTI

Kenya eases curfew after virus cases decline

Nairobi: Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta loosened infection-control measures on Saturday after the number of new Covid-19 cases confirmed in the country dropped from an early spring surge.Kenyatta announced in his May Day speech that a nightly curfew was being moved to 10 pm following a 72 per cent reduction in fresh cases. Kenyatta said sports events would resume under regulations to be issued by the Ministry of Health. AP
