Panchkula, January 20

A Sector 15 woman was duped of gold jewellery by two unidentified persons on the pretext of polishing them.

Complainant Rajesh Kumar told the police that two persons had approached his wife Meenakshi Dhanwal for polishing jewellery at their house on January 17.

Meenakshi initially gave some silver utensils, which the duo cleaned and polished using a powder. The duo then asked her to bring gold ornaments and even asked her to take off the earrings she was wearing. They then asked her to boil the mixture of water, chemical and turmeric in a bowl in which they had put her gold rings and earrings.

The complainant said the suspects then instructed the victim to not take the gold ornaments out of the bowl for at least one hour. Following this, they left the spot. Later, the woman suspected something was amiss and found just liquid mixture in the bowl. The incident was caught in the CCTV camera installed at the house.

In the CCTV footage, both suspects can be seen entering into the house of the victim. The police have registered a case under Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code. The police said they were trying to establish the identity of both suspects through CCTV footage.
