At least two persons were killed and six others injured when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a 300-feet gorge on the Bir Billing road, 30 km from here, last night.

Reports said that a group of friends had gone on outing to Billing, a tourist resort near Baijnath. When they were returning home the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the road due to snow and the jeep rolled down the hill, killing two persons on the spot.

Later with the help of locals and the police, the bodies and the injured were brought onto the road. All injured were shifted to Tanda hospital. The condition of two of the injured was reported to be critical.

The deceased have been identified as Chhotu and Ritik, both residents of Baijnath. The SDM, Baijnath, Chhavi Nainta, gave an immediate monetary relief to the families of the deceased. The bodies were handed over to them after a post-mortem this evening.

Health Minister Vipin Parmar and Baijnath MLA Mulakh Raj Premi have expressed shock over the tragedy.
