Amritsar: The authorities seized two mobile phones from the Central Jail here on Friday. One of the cellphones was seized from a prisoner, identified as Manjit Singh, alias Manga, of Khadur Sahib while the other one was found abandoned. The police have registered a case under the Prisons Act in this regard. The police said the accused would be brought on production warrant for further investigation. TNS
Core committe meeting held
Amritsar: Expressing regret over vandalisation of bhangra and giddha statues displayed at the Heritage Street, members of the district unit of SAD (Taksali) on Saturday said these should be shifted to some other place. During the core committee meeting of the party held under Gurpreet Singh Calcutta, the members demanded a change in the proposed design of the railway station in the city. They appealed to the administration to finalise the proposed design keeping in mind the religious and heritage culture of the city. tns
Firing: Case filed after six weeks
Tarn Taran: The Bhikhiwind police on Friday booked unidentified persons in a firing incident that took place at Sandhra village on November 29, 2019. Complainant Rajbir Kaur told the police that the accused had opened fire at her house. She said after firing, they fled from the spot. On her complaint, a case under Section 336 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspects. OC
Rs 3L grant for fitness centre
Amritsar: Inaugurating the newly built fitness centre at DAV College, Hathi Gate, Cabinet Minister OP Soni on Saturday announced a grant of Rs3 lakh for infrastructure development at the centre. Soni said fitness centres in educational institutions were important to make the youth aware of the benefits of being physically and mentally fit. He also interacted with staff and addressed students on the occasion. TNS
