Chandigarh, July 1

Loss of a loved one feels like riding through rough storms and sailing over dark clouds. We often look for ways to etch their cherished memories forever in our hearts and constantly feel their presence.

In one such instance, to keep the fond memories of her father alive, a woman came up with the unique idea of turning the shirts of her late father into a quilt.

Nikhita Kini shared a heart-warming video on her Instagram that has amassed over 8 million views.

After losing her father, she got quilts made of his favourite pink and blue shirts to reminisce about him in a heartwarming way.

She surprised her brother with one and kept one for herself to always feel his presence around.

The caption of the video read: "It took me 2 years to complete this reel. I couldn’t get myself to shoot the part where the package came to my place on dad’s birthday (coincidentally) - March 8th 2021 and I unpacked it and could feel emotions I haven’t experienced in my whole life. @purkalstreeshakti does God’s work of giving people more than just a warm blanket. They gave me my dad’s most prized possessions - his shirts, and made it into an heirloom.

"It was a ritual for mom and me to pick his shirts for him according to the colour of his pants. He would literally call us if we were away to ask us the correct combinations. When we'd go to shop he'd say "pick the most expensive shirt cause I want it to last for years" and I, a street shopper, never understood that. But I guess I can thank him now. His shirts will indeed last us forever.

"Happy father's day to every person here who doesn't have one. I hope you know he's never leaving your side. The whole point of his existence in your life was to prepare you for a day when he won't be around you and in that moment you'll discover your strengths. All of which was slowly planted by him...in moments you never realised were permanent memories," she wrote.

"Always keeping us warm, even from beyond," read the text on the video.

The knitted tapestry was a reflection of her father’s love, blessings and affectionate displays woven together beautifully.

It wasn’t just layers of fabric enclosing carded cotton for Kini but a whole array of emotions nicely wrapped to serve as a warm embrace of her late father.

The video moved users across the Internet and gave them ideas of paying homage to their dear departed.

"This is so precious"

"The video, this story and the caption...all of this is just love"

"This made me melt"
