Training programme held

Karnal: A one-day training programme was organised at Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Regional Centre (SBIRC), Karnal, for progressive sugarcane farmers and Cane Development Officers of Haryana under the chairmanship of Shakti Singh, MD, Haryana State Federation of Co-operative Sugar Mills. Roshan Lal Yadav, Cane Adviser, Sugarfed Haryana; Pradhuman Singh, Managing Director, co-operative sugar mill, Sonepat; Wazir Singh, Cane Manager, co-operative sugar mill, Karnal; and cane managers from other sugar mills of Haryana and scientists from SBIRC and CCSHAU, Regional Research Station, Uchani, were also present to discuss various issues and policies on sugarcane in the state.

WhatsApp number for public grievances

Karnal: In a bid to reach the doorstep of the public for resolving their grievances without visiting the Karnal Municipal Corporation office, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta has launched a WhatsApp number for the public and exhorted them to feel free to share any kind of grievance or issue related to graft or harassment by any official. She said that anyone could share their problem on number 99919-00059 and it would be resolved at the earliest. She said that in the past four days, she had received around 550 complaints. Of those, around 100 grievances related to streetlights, sanitation and cleanliness have been resolved. On around 200 complaints, work is underway and the remaining complaints have been sent to the departments concerned.

Environment awareness rally launched

Kurukshetra: Prerna Samiti Haryana along with DAV Police Public School organised its 232nd cycle drive cum save environment awareness rally. The rally was flagged off by Renu Raghav, Principal. She said that the efforts of Prerna Samiti Haryana for environmental protection are commendable. The samiti is constantly involved in cycle rallies and plantation work. Students should adopt bicycles in their daily lives. Samiti president Raj Panwar said that people are forgetting the cycle and falling prey to many diseases as a result. Rally convener Dr Ashok Kumar Verma said, “Let us take short journeys on bicycles, save fuel, improve the environment and reduce the burden of vehicles on the roads”. Karma Chand said that he had been cycling for 50 years and, as a result, was healthy even today. Dr Arun Dhiman said that today’s youth and children feel ashamed of cycling.

Kurukshetra MP lauds service of Nar-Narain Samiti

Kaithal: In a function held at RKSD College here, Nayab Singh Saini, MP, was the chief guest. He lauded the services rendered by local social organisation Nar-Narain Samiti in identifying children living in shanties and involved in rag-picking. The samiti was involved in telling them about the need for education in everyday life and taking steps for their education. Kaithal MLA Leela Ram was also present on the occasion. He said that works done by the samiti were inspirational not only for its volunteers, but also motivated donors and others. The MP said that during his tenure as Haryana Labour Minister in 2014, he had directed officials of his department to identify children of daily wage earners and take steps to motivate them for education. Following these directions, department officials visited labour chowks and workplaces, identified children and made arrangements for their education.

Bike rally on road safety

Kaithal: Deputy Commissioner Sujan Singh said that to maintain road safety is not only the responsibility of the government and various departments but every road user also has a responsibility towards it. The Deputy Commissioner was speaking after flagging off a bike rally from the mini secretariat during the ongoing road safety week here. He said that everyone driving a vehicle should stop at the red light, use seat belt and helmet and not drive rashly. He said that maximum accidents take place due to non-observance of traffic rules.

Toll-free number for children’s psychological problems

Sonepat: Under the “Bachon ki Baat, Telephone ke Saath” project, the Women and Child Development Department of Haryana had launched toll free phone number 82782-28020 for providing psychological consultancy service to the children of Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts of Rohtak division. Launching the service from Sonepat, Anshaj Singh, DC, said that children with some psychological problem could contact this phone number on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month between 3 and 4 pm to talk to Divisional Child Welfare Officer Anil Malik.
