Ludhiana, January 24

Various traders’ associations under the banner of ‘Business Bachao Morcha’ (BBM) today started a poster war against corrupt officials of the GST Department. The traders announced to form a ‘hockey brigade’ against the corruption while adding that they would stand united in the fight against highhandedness of GST officials.

Traders launched a poster war at Akalgarh Market and Chaura Bazaar to apprise people of corruption in the GST, Income Tax and other departments, and harassment being caused to members of trade and industry by corrupt officials. They made it clear that all of them had now joined hands and henceforth, they would not take things lying down, but wage a war against corruption and arbitrary action by government officials.

In a joint statement, the trade leaders said last week, GST officials had conducted a raid at a hosiery unit and a false case had been registered against the hosiery trader and a chartered accountant. “The aggrieved trader had submitted a formal complaint and provided proof of corruption by the GST officials to the police, but no action had been taken so far. We are forming a ‘hockey brigade’ of traders to fight against the corrupt practices of the government officials,” they added.

Signatories to the statement included YAD president Gurdeep Singh Gosha, Jagmohan Sharma, Vinod Jain, Arwinder Singh Tony, Sunil Tangri, Vaneet Handa, Sunil Mehra, Jaspal Singh Bunty, Sanjeev Chaudhary, Rubal Dhal, Parampal Singh, Ramesh Jain, Rajesh Sony, Sarbjit Singh Shanty, Gurcharan Singh Chan, Khushjeet Singh, Gurvind Singh and Raju Milan.

The protest was joined by the Akalgarh Market Shopkeepers’ Association, Beopar Mandal, Talab Mandir Road Shopkeeper Association, Steel Association, Pink Plaza Market Association, Subhani Building Scooter Market Association, Books Market Association, Dal Bazaar Association, Wait Ganj Shopkeepers’ Association, New Madhopuri Hosiery Association, Kirpal Nagar Hosiery Association and New Gur Mandi Shopkeepers’ Association, among others.
