Tips to ace biology exam

Biology is a subject of science stream that can work as a stepping stone for a very amazing career in the field of medicine and biotechnology. Pre-boards, on the other hand, are a stepping stone to success in Boards. They help you evaluate your preparation and improve on your weak areas. Hence, it is important to focus on your Pre-boards preparation.

The CBSE Class XII Biology syllabus is vast which makes it difficult for students to complete the entire syllabus on time and also have time for practice and revision. However, with proper planning this can be achieved.

Preparation tips

  • Know exam pattern: Students should be aware of the blueprint of CBSE Class XII Biology paper. Knowing the pattern helps in making a strategy for preparation and saving time in the exam. There are a total of 27 questions and five sections in the question paper. All questions are compulsory.
  • Focus on basics and stick to the syllabus - Students need to prepare the entire syllabus thoroughly and should be confident to attempt any question in the exam. They must be well-acquainted with the Class XII NCERT syllabus. Besides, focus should be on understanding of the concepts.
  • Be thorough with diagrams, terminologies - To ace biology, a theoretical and conceptual subject, students need to be well-versed with important definitions, terminologies and diagrams. They must practice diagrams as many times as possible to be able to quickly draw diagrams in the exams.
  • Proper revision of important topics - Although revision of the entire syllabus is significant, yet additional attention to the important topics which hold more weightage is required. Besides, students must solve previous years' papers and sample papers in a time-bound manner. This will not only ensure good written practice but also familiarise them with an exam-like scenario.
  • Tip for last-minute preparation
  • Read the question carefully and understand what is asked before writing the answer.
  • Write neatly and draw diagrams using a sharp pencil.
  • Underline the important keywords.
  • Keep your answers compact, concise and to the point.
  • Draw diagram even if the question does not state.
  • Time management

Managing time during the exam is crucial to complete the exam paper in the stipulated time frame. Divide your time strategically by setting deadlines to each section. Do not get stuck on any question. Planning in advance will not only keep you organized but also take off so much pressure from your mind. Here's how you can divide your time:

  • Section A: 10 minutes
  • Section B: 30 Minutes
  • Section C: 50 Minutes
  • Section D: 30 minutes
  • Section E: 1 Hour
