Residents of Suhavi village have been facing hardships due to stagnant rainwater in the main village street. It seems that the promises of development of the village ahead of elections have gone for a toss.
Locals complain that even a slight spell of rain leads to water stagnation. There is no drainage system, because of which, streets are flooded every time it rains. They also complained of negligence on the part of the authorities.
“Stagnant water has also increased the risk of exposure to water-borne diseases,” said a resident.
The villagers said earlier, there was a huge village pond where the rainwater used to get accumulated. But now, the panchayat had built a park on most of the area of village pond, resulting in accumulation of rainwater.
Village Sarpanch Satwinder Singh said an amount of about Rs 60 lakh has been approved for the construction of the sewerage and laying of the drainage system under the Shyama Parshad Mukherjee Rurban Mission. We have kept it on priority basis. Khamano BDPO Surinder Singh said he would inquire the issue and take the action accordingly.
