Faridkot, January 20
Unveiling of the statue of Krishan Bhagwan Singh, one of the two victims who were killed in police firing in October 2015, at Behbal Kalan, at Niamiwala village here by a Congress MLA led to a controversy.
Alleging denial of justice to the victims even four years after the incident, the wife and son of the deceased did not participate in the function. Expressing resentment over politicising the issue, Sukhraj Singh, victim’s son, said the statue should have been installed only after delivering justice to the family.
However, Kushaldeep Dhillon, Congress MLA from Faridkot, who had gone to unveil the statue, claimed that the statue was installed by the mother of the deceased at the community centre coming up in memory of Krishan Bhagwan Singh. “The mother and brother of the deceased had invited me to participate in the function,” he claimed.
Sukhraj Singh said the Congress had promised to put the culprits in jail within one month of assuming office, but nothing happened. “The Congress is only trying to extract political mileage from the issue,” he alleged.
Both the Congress and SAD had announced to build memorials for the two victims. “I wonder when these memorials will be completed and when the justice will be delivered amid political blame game,” he said. — TNS
