Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lifted the spirits of the first Indian Olympic fencer Bhavani Devi after she lost a match to world number three Mannon Brunet.

“You gave your best and that is all that counts. Wins and losses are a part of life. India is very proud of your contributions. You are an inspiration for our citizens,” the PM tweeted on Devi’s post about her loss.
