Tvesa Malik battles to T-6 finish in France

Evian-Les-Bains (France), June 6

Indian golfer Tvesa Malik recorded her second consecutive top-10 result and also equalled her career-best finish on the Ladies European Tour with a tied-6th place at the Jabra Ladies Open here.

Tvesa, who began the week with a modest 75, soared up the leaderboard with a 4-under 67 on the second day and closed with a 1-under 70 on the final day for a total of 1-under 212 late on Saturday.

Tvesa had enjoyed a similar result at home in the Hero Women’s Indian Open in 2019. Tvesa was tied with five other players.

Slovenian Pia Babnik, just 17 years of age, notched up her maiden win as she held her nerve in the crucial stages. She closed with a birdie-birdie for a 70 and set a clubhouse target of 4-under 212. Defending champion Annabel Dimmock produced a birdie on the 18th to force a playoff, which Babnik won and is now likely to get a Tokyo Olympic berth.

Diksha logs top-10 finish

Prague (Czech Republic): Indian golfer Diksha Dagar shot a final round of 2-under 70 to settle for a morale-boosting tied-9th finish at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge here. The 20-year-old Indian fired four birdies in the last eight holes. Diksha, who is on a recovery path from an ailing back, had rounds of 74-73-70.

Amateur Sara Kouskova became the first Czech to win on the LET Access series. She is the first amateur to win an LET/LETAS event. — PTI

Atwal slips to T-54 on a marathon day

Raleigh: India’s Arjun Atwal had a marathon day in which he played 30 holes at the Rex Hospital Open to make up for a backlog as he first made the cut with a round of 68 and then added a 74 in the third round. Beginning his third round soon after playing his 12 holes from second round, Atwal, a former winner on the Korn Ferry Tour, held up fine for the first 10 holes with two birdies against two bogeys on Saturday. Then he dropped three shots in the last eight holes. After 66-68 in the first two rounds, he was T-11, but by the end of the third round he had dropped to T-54.

US Open: Thompson takes lead, Megha T-3

San Francisco: Megha Ganne, an American teen amateur with Indian parentage, stayed in contention with a round of 72 that placed her tied-3rd after the third round of the US Women’s Open. The 17-year-old from New Jersey has now shot rounds of 67-71-72 for a total of 3-under 210 and is four shots behind the leader Lexi Thompson (66).
