Patiala to host Indian Grand Prix 4 on June 21

New Delhi: Star sprinters Hima Das and Dutee Chand will get one more domestic event in their bid to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics as the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) today announced that it will host the Indian Grand Prix 4 on June 21 in Patiala. The decision to hold the fourth series of the Indian GP was taken after the AFI’s efforts to send a 40-member team, including Hima and Dutee, for competitions in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan could not achieve success due to “changed quarantine rules” in those countries.

Buttler, Morgan under scanner for alleged racist remarks

England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan and wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler are under investigation by the country’s cricket board after their alleged racist tweets, mocking Indians, surfaced on the social media. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has promised “relevant and appropriate action”, saying each case will be considered on an individual basis. The posts, in which Buttler and Morgan used the word ‘sir’ to mock the Indians, started doing the rounds on social media after the ECB suspended pacer Ollie Robinson for some of his offensive tweets dating back to 2012-13.

Gidey breaks 2-day-old world record in women’s 10,000m

Letesenbet Gidey lowered the women’s 10,000m world record just two days after Sifan Hassan set the mark on the same track. Gidey clocked 29 minutes, 1.03 seconds at the Ethiopian Olympics trials, which are being held in the Netherlands. Gidey took 5.79 seconds off Hassan’s record set at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games.
