Indonesia win Thomas Cup after 19 years

Indonesia blanked defending champions China 3-0 to win the Thomas Cup title for the first time since 2002.

It was Indonesia’s 14th overall triumph in the tournament’s history.

China, who fielded a relatively inexperienced outfit, were seeking their seventh title in nine editions.

China beat defending champions Japan 3-1 in the Uber Cup final. Japan fought all the way despite missing some key players. China were superior across the four contested matches on Saturday. This is the 15th time China have won the competition. The match pivoted on the longest match in the Uber Cup history when Chen Qing Chan and Jia Yi Fan won their doubles match in 1 hour, 57 minutes. — AP
