Indian paddlers shine in ITTF Kazakhstan Open

New Delhi: The Indian pairs of Siddhesh Pande-Mudit Dani and Fidel R Snehit-Sudhanshu Grover had to be content with bronze medals after losing their respective men’s doubles semifinals at the ITTF Kazakhstan International Open in Karaganda. In the semifinals, the duo of Mudit and Siddhesh suffered a 3-0 loss to the Saudi Arabian pair of Ali Alkhadrawi and Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi, while Snehit and Sudhanshu went down 3-2 to the Kazakh pair of Alan Kurmangaliyev and Kirill Gerassimenko. However, Snehit entered the singles final defeating Belarus’ Pavel Platonov 4-1. The women’s doubles pair of Kaushani Nath and Prapti Sen stormed into the final, outclassing Uzbekistan’s Kamila Khalikova and Mekhriniso Norkulova 3-1.

Durand Cup: Gokulam Kerala, Army Red in quarters

Defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC and Army Red entered the quarterfinals of the 130th Durand Cup football tournament from Group D here today beating Assam Rifles 7-2 and Hyderabad FC 2-1, respectively. The Army Red team became the second Services side after Army Green to progress to the tournament’s knockout stages.
