Delhi, Bengaluru enter quarterfinals of Durand Cup

Delhi FC and Bengaluru FC today entered the quarterfinals of the 130th Durand Cup football tournament after notching up contrasting wins over Kerala Blasters and Indian Navy, respectively. Willis Plaza scored the winner in the 53rd minute as Delhi beat Kerala 1-0, while Bengaluru recovered from a 0-2 deficit at the half-way stage to outwit Indian Navy 5-3. Plaza is now the top scorer of the tournament with four goals to his name.

Federer says ‘feeling strong’ after knee surgery

Swiss great Roger Federer said he has faced no setbacks and is recovering well after his latest knee operation. Federer, who pulled out of the US Open, said in August he would be sidelined for many months because he needed more knee surgery in order to resume playing. The 40-year-old had two procedures in 2020 which resulted in more than a year of rehabilitation before a return to action in March. He last played at Wimbledon in July, where he suffered a quarterfinal exit.

Barty among first three qualifiers for WTA Finals

Defending champion Ash Barty, world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka and French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova have all qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals in Mexico. The event is scheduled to kick off on November 8 and was moved to Guadalajara from Shenzhen earlier this month due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced their cancellation last year.

Beckham’s son Romeo makes pro debut

Former England captain David Beckham’s son Romeo has begun to follow in his father’s footsteps with the 19-year-old making his professional soccer debut for Inter Miami’s reserve team over the weekend. Romeo played for American third-tier club Fort Lauderdale on Sunday. Fort Lauderdale is the reserve team of Inter Miami. — Agencies
