Colombo: India registered a series-clinching three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI here today. Chasing 276 for a win, the Indian top-order failed to fire but a middle-and-lower-order resurrection saw the visitors cross the finishing line, reaching 277/7 in 49.1 overs. After Suryakumar Yadav’s 44-ball 53, Deepak Chahar remained not out on 69 off 82 balls while Krunal Pandya chipped in with 35.

Earlier, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (3/50), Bhuvneswar Kumar (3/54) and Chahar (2/53) helped India restrict the hosts to 275.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka: 275/9 (Asalanka 65; Chahal 3/50, Bhuvneshwar 3/54, Chahar 2/53); India: 277/7 in 49.1 overs (Chahar 69*, Suryakumar 53).

Rahul ‘warms up’ with fine hundred but top-order fails

Durham (England): KL Rahul gave a timely reminder to the Indian team management with a sublime First-Class hundred against Select County XI on the opening day of the warm-up game here today. The Indian team, without its regular skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, ended the day at 306/9 despite early hiccups, thanks to Rahul’s 101 off 150 balls. Ravindra Jadeja (75 off 146) also played his part to perfection during the 127-run fifth-wicket stand with Rahul. Stand-in captain Rohit Sharma (9), Mayank Agarwal (28), Cheteshwar Pujara (21) and Hanuma Vihari (24) didn’t spend enough time at the crease. PTI
