Chess Olympiad: India B the odd one out

India B played out a 2-2 draw against Azerbaijan in the 9th round of the open section, while the India A and C teams registered identical 3-1 wins in the 44th Chess Olympiad here today. India A defeated Brazil, while India C beat Paraguay.

Meanwhile, leaders Armenia were surprised by Uzbekistan, who posted a 3-1 win. In the women’s section, the top-seeded India A were handed a 2.5-1.5 defeat by Poland. The India B and C teams beat Switzerland 4-0 and Estonia 3-1, respectively.

Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand was today elected deputy president of FIDE, the sport’s world governing body, while incumbent president Arkady Dvorkovich was re-elected for a second term.
