Kolkata, February 25

Chandigarh secured their third win on the trot to brighten their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Chandigarh are second in their group with 12 points. Saurashtra also have 12 points but lead the table on the basis of net run-rate.

In their maiden season in the Elite Group, Chandigarh were once again impressive, pipping Services by five runs. Gaurav Gambhir stole the show with an all-round effort as he first hit an unbeaten 44 from 47 balls to take his side to 224/8 after a middle-order batting collapse. He then took 4/51 before left-arm spinner Raman Bishnoi’s 2/29 in the death overs ended Services’ chase.

Meanwhile, Haryana beat Jammu & Kashmir by 13 runs in a high-scoring match.

Shaw slams 227

Jaipur: Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw became the highest individual scorer in Vijay Hazare Trophy as he smashed an unbeaten 227 off just 152 balls to help Mumbai beat Puducherry by 233 runs. The 21-year-old broke the record held by Sanju Samson (212 not out against Goa in 2019). This was the fourth double hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Brief scores: Chandigarh 224/8 (Gambhir 44*); Services 219 in 49.4 overs (Ahlawat 69; Gambhir 4/51); Haryana 308/6 (Chauhan 123, Rohit 51); J&K 295 in 49.1 overs (Rasool 86; Chaprana 4/35); Mumbai 457/4 (Shaw 227*, Suryakumar 133); Puducherry 224 (Solanki 5/48, Shardul 2/31); Himachal 251/8 (Gangta 100*; Kherjroliya 2/30); Delhi 252/4 (Kshitiz 67*; Dagar 2/40). — PTI
