Brazil win again, Argentina held by Colombia

Sao Paulo, June 9

Brazil moved further ahead in South American World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 win at Paraguay, their sixth in six matches on the road to Qatar.

The Brazilians are now six points clear of second-placed Argentina, who drew 2-2 at Colombia after squandering a two-goal advantage.

Neymar and Lucas Paqueta scored Brazil’s goals, marking the team’s first win at Paraguay in World Cup qualifiers in 35 years.

Earlier, Miguel Borja scored an equaliser for Colombia in the last seconds of added time against Argentina in one of the best matches yet in South American qualifying.

Brazil squad agrees to play in Copa America

Sao Paulo: Brazil’s national soccer squad has agreed to play in the Copa America despite expressing concerns over the late decision to stage the continental tournament in their home country. Players used social media to publish a message saying they are “unsatisfied” with South American soccer’s governing body, CONMEBOL, which decided to move the tournament to Brazil after Colombia and Argentina were dropped as co-hosts. They said they don’t want to make the organisation of Copa America a political debate, though. AP/PTI
