Bajwa has it easy in skeet trials

Angad Vir Singh Bajwa once again stamped his class to win the Olympic Team Selection Trials in skeet and that too by a distance.

Bajwa scored a total of 121 in the five rounds to top the charts, five clear of Gurjot Singh and Amrinder Cheema who registered 116 hits each.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan, who like Bajwa won a quota for the Tokyo Olympics at the Asian Shooting Championships last year, finished fourth after breaking 115 targets.

Despite winning the trial with a handsome margin, Bajwa was unhappy with the way he shot in the last two rounds, including his last two targets, which he dropped.

“The thing is, the targets from one of the low houses were coming out slow which put me off,” said Bajwa, who led the first day with a score of 74.

“Though I am happy, I know that I need to work harder as I dropped a few targets on a day when I could have easily finished at 123. Overall I am satisfied with the way the trials went and I got another lesson in shooting in somewhat adverse condition as the targets were emerging slower than the norm,” the 24-year-old Chandigarh-based shooter added.

In the women’s category, Darshna Rathore reigned supreme with a total of 117 hits. Areeba finished second with a total of 115 followed by Ganemat Sekhon who finished third with 110 hits.

Prithiviraj, Shreyasi on top

Prithviraj Tondaiman pipped Kynan Chenai at the trap ranges to finish atop the selection trials. Prithviraj broke down 120 targets, which was two clear of Kynan’s score of 118.

Manavditya Rathore was third with 117 hits, followed by Jungsher Virk who broke down 113 targets. However, things did not go down well for the 2006 world champion Manavjit Sandhu who finished a distant fifth after registering only 111 hits.

Shreyasi Singh won the trap trials in the women’s category. Shreyasi broke down 112 targets to pip Kirti Gupta by one target. Rajeshwari Kumari finished third with 108 hits while Seema Tomar finished fourth with 104 hits.

Vijayveer second

Arpit Goel won the 25m rapid fire competition after aggregating 586 points. Vijayveer Sidhu finished second with a total of 585 points. Anish Bhanwala finished third with a score of 583. Vijayveer’s twin brother Udayveer finished fourth with a total of 573 points, followed by Gurpreet Singh who finished fifth with a lowly 557 points.
