An eight-year-old Indian-origin boy defeated Polish chess Grandmaster Jacek Stopa at the Burgdorfer Stadthaus Open in Switzerland, becoming the youngest player to defeat a GM in classical chess. Ashwath Kaushik, who represented Singapore, defeated the 37-year-old Stopa. Ashwath, who moved to Singapore in 2017, said, “I felt proud of my game and how I played, especially since I was worse at one point but managed to come back from that.”

Mahilpur’s Khalsa College record easy victory

Hosts SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, recorded a 2-0 win over SN College, Banga, in the 61st All India Principal Harbhajan Singh Memorial Football Tournament. Simranjit Singh netted the opening goal in the 22nd minute, while Sahil doubled the lead in the 80th minute. In the club category, Namdhari FC defeated YFC Mahilpur by a solitary goal. Manjur Ali scored an own goal in the 52nd minute. Punjab Police played out a goalless draw with Hyderabad Artillery.
