Jalandhar, January 19

The Khel Udyog Sangh, here, has condemned the state government for not fulfilling even a single promise since the time they came to power.

In the protest, members of the sangh said they would now gift a copy of the manifesto to Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, which the Congress had released before coming to power in the state.

Ravinder Dhir, a member of the sangh, said they had asked for an appointment from the minister on January 26 where they would gift a copy of the manifesto as a symbol of protest.

He said when the state government came to power it said electricity would be provided at the rate of Rs 5 per unit and also no VAT refunds had been released yet.

Dhir said the exemption of limit of intra-state e-way bill had been doubled from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh as the exemption ended on September 13. They had earlier demanded from the MP that the notification for the same should be released again.

“The MP had then immediately called up the Finance Minister and discussed the issue with him, after which the minister had said the exemption would continue till the next six months, but no notification was ever released,” he said.

Earlier, adopting a unique way to apprise the PM and the CM of their demands, members of the sangh had sent them parcels of sports goods wishing a Happy Diwali. With their greetings, they had also sought that the sports goods must come under the 5 per cent slab of the GST.

Along with the parcel, a memorandum had also been attached, which read: “Kindly find a parcel of sports goods herewith, which are irrationally placed in the GST slab of 18 per cent and due to their low price with labour intensive production parameters, these products are witnessing a drastic reduction in demand. It has almost annihilated manufacturers. Henceforth, employment for the weaker section is also depleting since the implementation of the GST.”
