Sonia dissolves Punjab Congress committee, state unit chief Jakhar stays

New Delhi, January 21

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday dissolved the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and all district committees in the state with immediate effect, though its state unit president Sunil Jakhar will remain unchanged.

The party released a statement in this regard, a day after state Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Gandhi here and held detailed discussions with her.

Sonia Gandhi also formed an 11-member panel for better coordination between the government and the party in Punjab.

AICC incharge, Punjab, Asha Kumari will head the panel. The members include Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, PCC chief Sunil Jakhar, AICC general secretary Ambika Soni, ministers CS Channi, SS Arora and Vijay Inder Singla, Punjab general secretary Sandeep Sandhu, MLAs Kuljit Nagra and Gurkirat Kotli.

The Congress president has dissolved “executive committee of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and District Congress Committees (DCCs) of Punjab with immediate effect. The president of Punjab PCC shall remain unchanged,” the statement said. — With PTI inputs
