The Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association is going to organise a state-level winter games championship on the ski slopes of the Solang valley near Manali in Kullu district on January 25 and 26.
Ludar Thakur, chief of the Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association, told The Tribune that the matches would be held in junior and senior categories and the selected candidates would represent Himachal at the National Winter Games at Auli in Uttarakhand.
He said the winter games competition (snowboarding slalom and giant slalom) would be held in men’s and women’s category and preparations were underway for the success of the event. However, the execution of the event would depend over weather conditions in the region. The matches would be held with the collaboration of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali.
He said it was expected that around 30 winter sports clubs of the state would take part in the event. It would be a major attraction for tourists also, who can have a glimpse of winter games in the ski slopes of Solang.
