Students observe Human Rights Day, enjoy fun activities

Young Farmers Public High School, Bhadson

Human Rights Day was observed with zeal. Posters were prepared under the guidance of Art & Craft teachers Mohandeep Singh and Jasmeen Begum. Principal Mandeep Grewal addressed the students and informed them about the universal declaration of human rights and the various activities conducted on this day. She talked about the theme of 2020 'Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights'. It focuses on creating equal opportunities for everyone. She also motivated the students to respect the rights of others and not just fight for their own rights.

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

In order to sensitise the students about the importance of reducing waste to save the future of the planet, a best-out-of-waste activity was organised for the kids of the pre-primary block. The objective was to encourage them to think and work creatively to make marvels out of the discarded items. Students from Nursery to Class II prepared items from reusable and recycled materials like plastic bottles, empty cans and toilet rolls; etc. They also made their own piggy banks, planters and utility boxes/stands. The fun-filled activity enhanced their presentation skills along with helping them understand the importance of recycling and reusing waste materials.

Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Sr Sec Public School, Dhanora-Ladwa

School President Pawan Garg, Secretary Ravinder Bansal, Principal Dharminder Khera, Vice-Principal Narender Sharma and teachers, paid floral tributes to Late Sanjay Gandhi on the occasion of the school's Founder's Day. President Pawan Garg said late Sanjay Gandhi was an inspiration to the youth. He wanted to see India at the forefront of technology. School Principal Dharmendra Kheda said he was elected the Member of Parliament from Amethi. The concept of 'small family, happy family' was given by him.

Solitaire International School, Panchkula

It was a proud and memorable moment for the school as students of Class I presented a show 'Verdure' on the virtual platform. To sensitise young learners about growing environmental hazards, the theme was centralised on creating environmental awareness. Students portrayed invaluable role of flora and fauna in balancing the ecosystem. Concern of rapidly depleting natural resources was highlighted and students touched the emotional chord of audience through an effective virtual role play 'Plantrophy'. Rhyme recitation, singing, Just a Minute talk (JAM) were few of a long series of activities that were focused on importance of clean and green environment. Best practices of the school were highlighted digitally. The show was concluded on with a happy note as students and their parents tapped their feet to peppy dance music. All students were awarded digital certificates.

DAV Centenary Public School, Jind

To promote the new National Education Policy 2020, a committee has been constituted for the State of Haryana by the National Education Culture Upliftment Trust, which will be called the National Education Policy Implementation Committee, Haryana. The committee will promote NEP in colleges and universities at school and higher education-level in Haryana. To achieve this target, a committee of selected academics has been set up under the chairmanship of Dr Dharmadev Vidyarthi under which Education Committee has been constituted in conjunction with Prof Pawan Sharma of Kurukshetra University for Higher Education and Anita Sharma Principal of Delhi World Public School, Bhiwani, to work at school level. Higher Education Committee consists of Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, Dr Takeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharishi Balmiki University, Kaithal, Dr Shreyansh Dwivedi, in addition to Doctor Neeraj Dilbagi, Hisar, Dr Anupam Arora, Panipat, Dr Anupama, Ambala, Dr Sanjay Kumar, Kurukshetra, Dr Vinod Batan, Mahendragarh, and Dr Rupesh, Ladwa, whereas the School-Level Committee includes Haryana Technical Education Secretary, Rajesh Goyal, Major Singh, Panipat, Jag Mohinder Singh Sangwan, Rohtak, Sudarshan Punia, Jhajjar, Ravindra Kaushik, Narwana, Suresh Bodla, Kaithal, Ashok Saini, Jind, and Praveen Kumar, Ambala.

Shemford Futuristic School, Pinjore

The school celebrated Fit India School Week. Students participated in activities like brain teasers, brain games to improve concentration and problem-solving capacity and quizzes related to fitness and sports. Activities like debates, symposium, lectures on diet and nutrition, essay writing, poem writing, movie making, making advertisements and posters gave a platform to students to express their views on the topic, especially in this period of the pandemic. It was an exemplary experience of fitness with fun in this period of virtual classrooms. While on the one hand, free-hand exercises, aerobics, yoga, dance forms filled vigour and enthusiasm among students, on the other hand teachers, staff and parents of the students also participated in the event enthusiastically. Virtual challenges like spot jogging, step-up challenge, rope skipping, squats challenge were organised for them. Games like cricket, badminton and tennis were suggested to be played creatively using home-based equipment. An open letter to the Shemstars on 'Power of Fitness' was also posted on the digital platforms of the school. The school also received a certificate of recognition from the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on the successful completion of the Fit India School Week.

Goodwill International School, Dist. Gurdaspur

The school held 'Fit India School Week' with an objective to develop sport quotient among the students in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle. This six-day programme comprises free hand exercise, common yoga activity, poster-making competition, poem writing competition, virtual challenge, rope skipping, hula hoop, one-step jogging, ball dribbling, spot running; etc. In the poster-making contest, Komalpreet Kaur and Lovedeep Kaur stood first and second, respectively.

AKSIPS-41 Smart School, Chandigarh

A plethora of activities were planned and executed during the 'Fit India School Week', an initiative launched by the Govt of India. Students were enlightened about this initiative and were told about the activities planned during the special assembly. Students from classes I to III did rope skipping and students of classes IX and X danced their hearts out by following the in-house dance teacher online. Students from classes VI to VIII demonstrated the benefits of yoga by performing multiple asanas which can prove beneficial in these trying times. To test the students take on the pandemic, a poster-making competition was organised on the topic 'Beat Pandemic' for the budding artists. A general awareness quiz was also organised. A webinar on the importance of taking a balanced diet was delivered by Dr Jyoti. An essay-writing competition was organised on the theme- 'Beat Pandemic' in English, Hindi and Punjabi for classes IX and X. The final day was observed as 'Family Fitness Day' where students from all classes shared short video clips of their whole family performing some exercise or the other.

Manav Rachna International School, Mohali

The school organised an enlightening session on "Decoding study skills" for classes VI to IX.  Nitesh, an IIM alumnus and Cambridge certified trainer, elaborated on concepts like 'the memory model' and 'metacognition' and motivated students to think about what they were thinking. Students enjoyed unravelling the Zeigarnik effect and the learning pyramid. Sanyogita Sharma, Director, Manav Rachna International Schools, encouraged students to use study skills such as Pomodoro effect and spaced learning to make their learning easier and more effective. Principal Taruna Vashisht asked kids to implement the tips and tricks and improve their performance in the upcoming assessments.

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula

The Town Park witnessed the 'Fit India Cycle Rally' organised by the school. In order to spread the message of fitness among city residents, more than 50 cycling enthusiasts, including teachers and students of the school, participated in it. The cyclists took multiple rounds of the town park. Vice-Principal Sonia Pabby and Headmistress Anita Ranjan flagged off the rally. The contingent raised the slogans such as 'Fit School, Hit School'. Principal Gulshan Kaur blessed all teachers and students present and she inspired them to maintain highest level of fitness.

MDAV School, Chandigarh

Online activities on anti-corruption day were conducted. Pupils actively participated in storytelling and story writing activities. The story telling activity was for the children of classes III-VIII and the story writing activity was for the students of classes IX-X. Their ideas were directly related to current scenario of the society.

Govt Model Sr Sec School, Sector 44 B, Chandigarh

Energy conservation club "Shakti" of the school celebrated Energy Conservation Week. Club in-charge Indu Bala said various activities like poster making, slogan writing, online quiz and rally were organised. Principal Asha Rani distributed prizes among students. The programme was sponsored by the State Designated Agency (SDA), Chandigarh.

Jitenderveer Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Mohali

A conference was held on NEP 2020 for the teachers. The precautionary Covid-19 measures were strictly followed. As many as 86 teachers from city's six Sarvhitkari schools took part it. The resource persons of this programme were Praveen Chaubey, lecturer Govt Post Graduate College, Bharati Sharma, Principal, DPS School, Zirakpur, Ruhi Soni, advocate and Arihant. All the educationists expressed their views regarding the challenges faced by the education sector during the pandemic. At the end, Principal and coordinator of the conference Kavita Atri thanked all the guests and teachers for their presence in the programme.

Sky World School, Panchkula

Navneet Kaur, a teacher at the school, has received a special appreciation for the IIT Delhi Innovative Teachers' Award for her case study at Educarnival, a virtual international conference organised by IIT Delhi & Edu Excellence. Eminent school leaders and International speakers spoke at length about the latest policies and practices in the field of education. The topics discussed ranged from the impact of Covid-19 on education to school reopening in England to NEP and latest trends in education. Schools across the country participated in the event. The discussion revolved around challenges and issues faced in modern day education. The conference ended with a special address by Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
