Those were the days !

When reaching school early was our aim,

Kho-Kho, Badminton and Basketball were our favourite games.

Playing with friends during break was a fun task,

But, now we aren’t allowed to take-off our mask.

 Those were the days !

When touching the ground first, was our goal,

Power cut and summers made us rock and roll.

To protect ourselves from scorching heat we used to come up with creative plans,

Power cuts made us little engineers by making paper fans.

 Those were the days !

When getting seat at window side was not less than winning a fight,

Sitting in the auditorium during heavy rain was a matter of delight.

The teachers used to play movies of our choice,

And used to relish it with rejoice.

 Those were the days !

When becoming the monitor of class was our only dream,

Equally wonderful was to enjoy with friends while having ice cream.

Plans to have pasta and smiley in the break were well kept secrets,

Only a smile on our face can explain it best.

 Those were the days!

When sitting on the first bench appeared to be a punishment,

But it was aimed at ensuring our overall betterment.

Annual function remained the most awaited one,

As we were involved in hectic activity for a month.

 Those were the days !

When sharing and caring was full of amaze,

Sharing and eating with teachers was our craze.

Participating in farewell seemed to be joyful,

But saying goodbye to friends was at that time painful.

 Those were the days!

When giving exams in class rooms was momentous,

Elevation to new class was always joyous.

We always used to yearn for holidays but never knew closure of school due to Covid will snatch our golden days.

 Missing those days !

Now we eagerly wait to go back to school as did in pre-Covid days,

May god get eliminate this pandemic and open the school gates.

I miss my school, I miss sister principal and my teachers,

I miss disciplined life, sports, enactment and every other feature.

Let us all pray that Covid ends soon,

And all students sore high towards stars and moon.

SCHOOL DAYS

Ishmita Wasu, Class X, Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh

Those were the days

When the morning PT would leave us in such a sleepy phase.

Those were the days

When for helping the teachers we would go up and down always.

Those were the days

When in the library 'silence' the librarian would say.

Those were the days

When making 'depression notes' would convince teachers to let us go downstairs.

Those were the days

When for the 'most disciplined' class teachers would praise.

Those were the days

When in free time we used to give truth and dares.

Those were the days

When we used to play basketball, football, throwball and chase.

Those were the days

When for talking in the class the class leaders would give our complaints.

Those were the days

When we used to get scolding for long nails.

Those were the days

When by decorating the class so beautiful, everyone would be amazed.

Those were the days

When to decorate the blackboard in the morning, people had many creative ways.

Those were the days

When on seeing a teacher we would switch from Hindi to English straight away.

Those were the days

When by talking and talking, the other classes would be fazed.

Those were the days

When for school events we would take part in role plays.

Those were the days

When in Interschool competitions, we would set fire on stage.

Those were the days

When we would dance on those all-time party songs played by the DJs'.

Those were the days

When for picnics and field trips we had such an extreme craze.

Those were the days

We can never forget,

When we never thought

A highly contagious virus could lead to a pandemic.

Wish we could have our school time back

Wish everything would soon get back on track

For now, we can only hope,

And just video chat with old folks

Till then, with these difficult times, we have to cope

And keep remembering those pleasant memories the heart had evoked.
