International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed across schools

KBDAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 7, Chandigarh

The Principal, teachers, and students of classes XI and XII observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Jatinder Kumar Kamboj, a lawyer and panel advocate of State Legal Services Authority, UT Chandigarh, and Juvenile Justice Board, Chandigarh, was the guest speaker. He was accompanied by Rajeshwar Singh, a Law Officer from State Legal Services Authority, UT Chandigarh. Kamboj spoke about the State Legal Services Authority and addressed issues of youth being vulnerable to drug abuse, drug mafia active around us, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) passed by Parliament in 1985 and loopholes in the Act. He said the deadly addiction was fatal in most cases and shattered lives of the family of drug addicts. He added that provision of certain government and private drugs cells has been made but the reason for the youth falling into the drug racket was lack of proper counselling after rehabilitation. He stressed that there was a need for the inclusion of such a sensitive issue in the school and college curricula, and also for the involvement of youth in the initiative against drug abuse. Various queries of the students were answered during the session. The programme ended with Komal Sethi of Class XII presenting her views on drug abuse, while Nishtha Kalia of Class XI recited a beautiful poem titled ‘It’s a clue’.


St Soldier International School, Mohali 

To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, students were sensitised through various activities. Pupils of classes VII and VIII prepared e-posters. School Counsellor Avleen Kaur conducted an online session for classes IX to XII, wherein she apprised the students of the prevalent social evils which are eroding the values of society.


DAV Public School, Ambala Cantt

Students, along with their parents, exhibited their talent in an online singing competition. Jasmeet of Class VIII, Divjot of Class VII and Hazel of Class VI shared the first position followed by Bhoomika of Class VIII, Ritviz of Class VII and Mansi of Class VI. Chetan of Class VIII, Tushita of Class VII and Mishta and Shirin of Class VI stood third.


Sri Sukhmani International School, Dera Bassi

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed, wherein various activities were conducted to create awareness and instil a sense of responsibility among students. Students participated in various contests online like poster making, slogan writing and article writing on the theme of drugs. The Principal and the management members appreciated the students’ efforts.


Manav Rachna International School, Mohali

The school has always encouraged its students to be the change makers for protecting the environment so that future generations can enjoy the natural resources. Keeping this goal of sustainability in mind, the International Upcycling Day was observed by students of classes II to V. They upcycled waste tin, glass and plastic containers into planters for their study table. Pupils enjoyed decorating the same using twigs, leaves, pebbles and other decorations during demo sessions with their teachers.
