Grandparents, the real gems

Show comments

As the popular saying goes 'interest is more dear than the principal amount ', grandparents are a true gift that you get indirectly from your parents with a direct and affectionate relationship. The wrinkles on their golden face, those small glittery eyes and the silver hair can explain the real story behind the journey of their life. But the only condition to know that story is to spend time with these god-gifted gems. They have in store for you the original treasure - time, fun, unconditional love, understanding, wisdom and most importantly the chance to create priceless memories with them.

Grandparents can impact your life positively by imparting moral and social values that are required at your growing stage. Their expression of unconditional  love through bedtime storytelling is slowly being replaced by online games and gadgets along with lots of instructions from the parents. We sometimes forget the real value of our gems. They brought us up, prepared us for the challenging  world. How can they become boring or useless? The most interesting time for grandparents is when they get to enjoy the company of their grandchildren. But because of parents who are working full time and their new rules and regulations, kids are missing out on their moral and social values.

The lap of grandma, little pocket money, 'daadi maa ke nuskhe', bike ride training among other things form an integral part of childhood in an Indian household. However, today kids are being sent away from home to get exposure to 'experiential learning'. But parents don't realise that they are taking the childhood of their kids for granted by keeping them busy in various activity classes. Let's nuture our kids under the shade of their grandparents and watch them evolve into wise humnan beings with great moral values. As it is rightly said by someone, 'Old people are like kids, then why not let our kids grow up with kids?'
