Shimla, July 29

Bishop Cotton School, one of the oldest schools in North India, celebrated its 162nd founder’s day on Wednesday by going live on the BCS Facebook page.

This was the first such global event of legendary heritage school broadcasts from Shimla. The celebrations started by extending a warm welcome to old Cottonians, and writer, historian and guest speaker Raaja Bhasin. Another alumnus Karan Pal Singh Chauhan, co-founder of ‘31 Parallel’, a Shimla-based top BPO company, also joined the panel discussion on ‘What makes a good Cottonian’ along with students and teachers.

The broadcast came from the historic Irwin Hall at the school.

“This is all part of modernisation of the iconic boarding school as the world faces a multitude of challenges and we must promote the type of education envisaged by Bishop Cotton, which is as relevant today as it was in the 1850s,” said school director Simon Weale, adding that Bishop Cotton believed character development to be as important as academic success.

Talking about the pandemic, he said the lockdown had given us a great opportunity to realise what was precious in our lives. He concluded by saying “work hard, stay safe and it won’t be long before you are back to school”.
