Children across region celebrate eco-friendly Divali

Vidya Valley School, Kharar

Students virtually enjoyed Divali celebrations conducted on the school premises. The day began with an online session in which students were told about the significance of Divali. The students virtually participated in various art and craft activities like diya and candle decoration, wall hangings and toran making, poster-making on eco-friendly Divali etc. All students virtually witnessed the religious ceremonies in the school. Principal Suman Lata addressed students with her kind words of appreciation and encouraged them to celebrate an eco-friendly Divali. Chairman Jaspal Singh, Deputy Director Simmerpreet Singh and Director Surinder Kaur graced the occasion.

Guru Nanak Foundation Public School, Mohali

The school left no stones unturned to ensure that the students bask in festivities and yet learn something new. The Festival of Lights came alive when the whole school wore a festive look with children wearing colourful dresses on a virtual platform. While celebrating Diwali online, young achievers led the way in spreading the message of celebrating safe and pollution-free eco-friendly Divali. Card making, diya decoration (classes I to IV), festoon making (classes V and VI), lantern making and killa making competitions were held to enhance the creative skills of students. Children decorated diyas with colours and glitter. Students of classes VII and VIII won the hearts of the audience when they tried their hands in fire-less cooking. Moreover, a Mehndi competition was organised for senior students. Principal Poonam Sharma reiterated that children should celebrate pollution-free Divali.

Ryan International School, Mohali 

Children's Day was celebrated with fervour. Teachers made it a point to participate in the function and make the day memorable for children. A special assembly was conducted by teachers which stated by seeking the blessings of the Lord followed by praise and worship songs. Many games were played like tongue twisters, sentence stem, riddles, quiz, role play which were thoroughly enjoyed by students. A special skit was performed by students. The school chairman inspired students to push their limits in life and become motivating factors for the world.

St Joseph’s Sr Sec School, Chandigarh

After being the youngest speaker at UN Asia Pacific Climate Week, Bangkok, young climate activist of Chandigarh, Shreya Chawla, proves her versatility at another global platform of GPI London by winning Global Teen Peace Ambassador of GPI Title. Shreya Chawla, a student ofthe school, registered her victory twice at the global platforms of Global Teen Peace Summit 2020 and Global Youth Peace Summit 2020 organised by Global Peace Institute, London. She being entitled as a Teen & Youth Ambassador of Global Peace Institute, UK, also won the Best Speaker Title at both the summits amongst participants from nearly 52 countries. 

Sri Sukhmani International School, Derabassi

The school celebrated Children's Day by conducting a virtual assembly. Teachers left no stone unturned to make the day special for students. The programme began by remembering the Almighty. This was followed by a speech by Gurkamal and Neena. A presentation was prepared by Anita and Bhupinder on all virtual activities done by students. The assembly ended with a vote of thanks by Geetanjali. School Chairman Prof Avtar Singh and Director Kanwaljit Kaur wished the students and motivated them to follow the footsteps of Pandit Nehru. Principal Poonam Sharma addressed the children and encouraged them to dream big and work hard.

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula 

The online platforms reverberated with clapping and enthusiasm. The school celebrated Children's Day in advance, as the day coincides with Divali. There were surprises unfolding for the students one after the other. Teachers not only conducted the morning assembly for the students but also showcased their talent. Teachers recited poems, demonstrated their linguistic agility with tongue twisters, cracked jokes and danced. The teachers reminisced pre-corona times of school. The 'Pahchan Kon' round proved to be a big hit. The virtual celebration was no less than the actual experience. An IKFF movie Baja was also shown to the students. The movie was liked by the students. Principal Gulshan Kaur showered her blessings over the children. She functioned as a torch-bearer and inspired all teachers to explore the untapped potential of the children.

New India Smart Sr Sec School, Panchkula

The school celebrated Diwali on a virtual platform. A number of activities were organised during the week. Poster-making, diya, thali, candle decoration, Swasti-making, Bandanwar making and rangoli-making competitions were organised. Children were encouraged to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali. They were apprised of the ill-effects of fire crackers and the pollution after bursting of crackers. Director Sharda Gupta appreciated the efforts of students and wished them safe, prosperous, happy and healthy Divali.

Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh

Teachers made a virtual effort to celebrate Divali and Children's Day. Teachers presented 'The thought of the day', 'Word of the Day', along with a beautiful poem on the significance of Divali. The icing on the cake was a PPT presented by the IT Department. Principal Nina Pandey extended her blessings and wished children and their families on the occasion. A pledge was taken to celebrate a safe, eco-friendly and green Divali.

MDAV School, Chandigarh

An online Divali celebration was conducted. On this occasion, students took part in diya and candle-making activities. They showed their creativity through chandelier decorations, wall hangings, greeting cards; etc. Pupils also participated in slogan writing activities. The objective of these celebrations was to make the students and parents aware about the ill-effects of bursting crackers. Students took the pledge on 'No bursting of crackers and protection of environment'. Meanwhile, the school's health club conducted an activity to celebrate National Cancer Awareness Day. To celebrate this day, a drawing and declamation competition was organised. Class III onwards, students took part in the competition. Teachers motivated the students to eat healthy and balanced food, sleep for minimum seven hours a day, exercise daily and go for regular medical check-up.

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

The school's pre-Primary Wing celebrated Divali and Children's Day with enthusiasm via virtual platform. Children were told that Children's Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who believed that kids who are the future of the nation should be carefully and lovingly nurtured. Meanwhile, the students were also told about the significance of the festival of lights and the harmful effects of crackers. Tiny tots eagerly participated in various fun-filled games and craft activities. They were at the same time reminded to have a safe and environment-friendly Diwali. Keeping in mind the pandemic restrictions, they were encouraged to opt for virtual greetings.

St Vivekanand Millennium School, Pinjore  

In the 5th Eduleader Summit and Award Ceremony, the school has been awarded the 'School Excellence Award' for 2020. It received the honour through a programme organised by 'International Chamber for Service Industry' through virtual medium. The survey was attended by nearly 862 schools across the country, of which 300 schools met the rules of the survey. Out of the 300, the jury awarded 40 schools in various categories. Principal Piyush Punj gave credit for the success to all the staff members, students and parents.  

AKSIPS-45 Smart School, Chandigarh 

To commemorate *International Day against Violence and Bullying, the school held online sessions for students and teachers wherein videos highlighting the need for a safe and secure learning environment for all children were shown. Students of classes VI to VIII shared various ways to address and eliminate violence in schools. Director-Principal Jasmine Kalra appreciated the efforts put in by the students and teachers.  

The Sky School, Panchkula

In light of the pandemic, this year's Divali activities were held online and the students didn't let the virtual celebrations dampen their festive spirit. They participated in the activities with zeal. From the Kindergarten to the Senior Wing, students performed in activities like diya decoration, candle making, card making, putting up a stall, poster making and slogan writing for 'Clean and Green Divali'. They were also given assignments like decorating a 'Divali corner' and making rangoli at home which would be judged later.

Goodwill International School, Distt Gurdaspur

On the occasion of Unity Day, the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel, the school organised a poster-making competition. The competition was held in two groups - junior and senior. From the junior group, Navneet Kaur of Class V and Khushdeep Kaur of Class VII bagged the first and second spot, respectively. In senior group, Jasmeet Kaur of Class X and Palvi Sharma of Class IX secured the first and second position. Director-Principal Jasbinder Kaur congratulated the winners. e-Certificates were awarded to the winners and participants.
