Rohtak, January 20

Councillors today boycotted a meeting of the local municipal corporation (MC) convened at a gaushala managed by the civic body at Pehrawar village in the district.

“The meeting was convened at the MC-run gaushala to sensitise and orient councillors and staff about measures adopted for the rehabilitation of stray cattle,” said Pardeep Godara, Municipal Commissioner, adding that all arrangements had been made at the gaushala.

Perhaps due to some communication gap, the proper message regarding the underlying idea behind holding the meeting at the gaushala could not be conveyed to the councillors, who objected to the venue as they considered it below their dignity.

The councillors seemed to be under the impression that the venue for the MC meeting was shifted as a meeting of the local zila parishad had to be held at the venue where their meetings were usually held.

“We did not like the idea of holding a meeting at the gaushala. We went to the gaushala, but just to register our protest. After putting forth our point, we boycotted the meeting and left,” said Kadam Singh Ahlawat, councillor.

Mayor Manmohan Goyal said the meeting had to be postponed due to boycott by councillors and the next date would be finalised soon.
