Tarn Taran, January 17

Six armed robbers took away Rs 6 lakh from a branch of Axis Bank, Thathian Mahantan village, 20 km from here, on Friday. After collecting the amount, the robbers uprooted the CCTV cameras of the bank with its whole apparatus and took it along with them. The Sarhali police have registered a case under Section 395 of the IPC in this regard.

According to the information, the robbers came to the spot in a white Swift car (without the registration number), which was parked some distance away from the bank. The robbers sent one of their associates as a decoy customer first who was followed by a masked robber.

As soon as the masked robber tried to enter the bank premises, Nishan Singh, security guard of the bank, asked him to uncover his face. The masked robber caught hold of Nishan Singh when his associate who had entered the bank as a customer too overpowered Nishan Singh. Interestingly, the bank security guard was without any arm.

Without wasting any moment, the other three robbers too entered the bank and held hostage all the staff of the bank at gunpoint, including manager Lakhwinder Singh. The bank staff was locked in a room of the bank. The robbers took the keys of the cash almirah and collected the cash. After collecting the cash, they wound up the CCTV cameras with apparatus and managed to flee the spot. The police officials visited the spot and collected first-hand information. SP (Investigation) Jagjit Singh Walia said a case had been registered at the Sarhali police station.
