Rain lashes city, comes in way of Lohri festivities

The city witnessed rain throughout the day and disrupted residents’ plans of celebrating Lohri with a blast. The city saw a rainfall of 17.1 mm till 5.30 pm. The maximum temperature in the city was 14.8°C, while the minimum temperature was 8.9°C.

The sky turned pitch dark during the afternoon due to the clouds. Some of the city areas witnessed water-logging while in others the sewerage problems over discharge of waste water were aggravated. Residents said, “The problems of waste stagnation and sewer clogging have persisted since long but they are aggravated during rainy days. The water collects on the road-sides and continues to spread foul smell and lead to health problems for the residents.”

Due to rain, a number of areas, including the Fountain Chowk area, Leela Bhawan, city bus stand area also witnessed traffic issues during the day. Officials in the Municipal Corporation said water from most of the areas was discharged into the sewer pipes and other exits soon after.
