Women, youth dominates farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation against Centre

'25,000 women participating in protests'

In the fight against three farm laws, the farmers “Delhi Chalo” agitation has got overwhelming response from the women, children and youth as large number of them have come out from their houses and are participating in these protests taking place across the state at Haryana borders.

A six-year-old Shahbaz Singh of Chak Fatte Singhwala village has also reached at the protest holding farm union flag in his hand. While talking to The Tribune, Shahbaz said, “Modi government is taking their lands, due to which he has come along with his family to protest against these black bills and save our land.”

Even school-going girls wearing jeans and tops with union badge were also spotted at the Dabwali border protest. Even many youngsters were seen carrying flag in their hand and chanting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union government over these three farm laws.

BKU Ekta Ugrahan women wing president Harjinder Kaur Bindu, the force behind motivating women in the region for this protest, said around 25,000 women are participating in protests today. “We have run campaign by holding jaggo and mashal marches in 800 villages in the region to encourage women and youth for this protest.”

She said, “I was busy holding village-level meetings with women in the region and I happy to see that women and youth have come out in this protest in large numbers.”

“With the women coming out participating in the protest and most importantly understands farming issues, out fight has become stronger,” she added.  

Moreover, Bindu said “It is very pleasing to see that dedicated women members are joining the union these days in the region.”

Tarjinder Singh, a youth of Tarkhanwala village in Bathinda said “Their family income is dependent on farming and with these laws, we will not get good price for our produce and big corporate will take our lands, so this is the time that each and every Punjabi should come and support farmers and protest against the Modi government over these three farm laws.”

Even many physically disabled persons were also witness coming to farmers protest. A physically-challenged Sukhdev Singh of Mann Khera village in the Bathinda, walking with aid reached at the Dabwali border to participate in this protest. Sukhdev said, “Modi government is doing wrong with the farmers. This is the reason today he has come out for farmers, everyone should come out and support farmers.”
