Fazilka, May 25

A woman allegedly burnt his husband to death in Chak Saidoke village of Jalalabad subdivision in Fazilka district.

In a statement recorded at Amir Khas police station, Gurwinder Singh stated that his brother Gursewak Singh often used to have verbal spats with his wife Khushmanpreet Kaur, alias Veerpal Kaur, over petty domestic disputes.

He alleged that Khushmanpreet Kaur put oil on her husband on Friday in a bid to burn him alive. Gursewak Singh sustained 75 per cent burns and was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday evening.

On the other hand, Khushmanpreet Kaur said her husband was lighting a lamp in the house when he caught the fire, resulting in burn injuries.

Amir Khas police station SHO Gursewak Singh said the accused has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC and was yet to be arrested. Family members and villagers staged a protest on the Jalalabad-Muktsar road today at 11 am and demanded immediate arrest of the accused woman.

The villagers alleged the accused was allowed to flee due to the callous attitude of police officials. They said they would gherao the office of the DSP, Jalalabad, on Tuesday if the accused was not arrested by then. The family members have refused to cremate the body.
