Abohar: The police have arrested two persons for smuggling 15 kg of poppy husk. The accused have been identified as Harpreet Kaur of Khalchian in Amritsar and Jagsir Singh Mehra of Kotbakhtu in Bathinda. They were intercepted near Kodmadesar. In another case, the police have seized 1.9 kg of opium from Gurpreet Singh, Darshan Singh and Saraj Singh. Anurag Tandon of Sriganganagar was nabbed with eight grams of smack. TNS

Youth dies of drug overdose

Abohar: The police have arrested two persons in connection with the death of a youngster who reportedly died of drug overdose (chitta) near the new grain market on June 30. The vicitm has been identified as Rohit. Krishan Kumar, father of the victim, told the police that Baldev Singh and Ashwani Kumar of Panjpir Nagar gave an overdose of drug to Rohit. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the IPC and the NDPS Act.
