Faridkot, January 21

Despite opposition from the state Congress leadership, Navjot Singh Sidhu participated in a political rally in Moga on Sunday.

Sidhu alleged that massive corruption and lawlessness under the AAP government was driving the youth and industry out of the state.

He challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for a debate. He also criticised the BJP-led Central Government and demanded that the Centre should open the borders with Pakistan for economic revival of the state.

Ex-MLA gets show-cause notice

  • Moga’s Cong in-charge Malvika Sood Sachar filed a plaint against ex-MLA Maheshinder Singh, who organised the event
  • Capt Sandeep Singh, general secretary, Punjab Congress, on Sunday issued a show- cause notice to Maheshinder Singh and his son Dharam Pal Singh
  • They have been accused of arranging a party meeting in Moga without taking Sachar into confidence

While avoiding any direct attack on his counterparts in the Congress, Sidhu said many honest and stalwart Congress leaders in the state had been sidelined and people of no political substance were trying to rule the roost, which had weakened the state Congress.

“I have decided to pull the Congress out of this darkest phase by supporting and strengthening all party leaders,” added Sidhu.

Unlike many leaders who changed the political parties for posts and personal benefits, I had left the BJP to strengthen the Congress in Punjab, he claimed

Former cabinet minister Lal Singh, former MLAs Maheshinder Singh Nihalsinghwala, Nazar Singh Manshahia, Surjit Singh Dhiman, Jagdev Singh Kamalu and local leaders participated in the event.
