Chandigarh, June 26

Reacting on the Sangrur Lok Sabha byelection result, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the party bowed before the mandate of the people in true democratic spirit and were confident SAD (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh Mann would raise his voice to get the grievances of Punjabis addressed in Parliament.

Sukhbir said the SAD had contested the parliamentary byelection on principles and would continue to stand by them. “We had put up a nominee from the families of Sikh prisoners in league with all panthic organisations. This was a principled fight. We will continue to strive to secure the release of the Sikh prisoners, including Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who has been in jail for 28 years without parole.”
