Former minister and ex-Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Ashwani Kumar on Saturday said the impending appointment of Navjot Singh Sidhu as state party president and continuation of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh as the face of the campaign was a welcome resolution of a long-standing imbroglio.

“There’s a welcome resolution of the outstanding issues relating to the party in the state.

Mr Sidhu as Punjab Congress president and the CM will complement each other in leading the party to victory in elections along with the support of all senior leaders,” said Kumar.

He said the appointment of Sidhu, welcome as it is, cannot be seen and should not be seen as undermining in any way the position of the chief minister who will be the face of the campaign along with Sidhu.

“The Congress president’s decisions taken after the widest possible consultations represent a consensus approach to management of party affairs and all leaders would whole heartedly accept her decision,” the former law minister said.

He said the overall structure of the new party organisation is expected to reflect accommodation, inclusion and representation of all segments of society.
