Moga, June 28

A 42-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death here, police said on Tuesday.

Lakshman Singh, a resident of nearby Nathuwala Jadid village, worked as a night watchman in the local truck union.

Lakshman was regularly beaten up by one Kulwant Singh Gill, a resident of Kothe Patti Mohabbat area of Moga, over a personal dispute between them.

Lakhsman, who was in a serious condition on Monday after being betaen up, was rushed to the district hospital, where he was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Lakshman’s wife told the police that she had repeatedly called up her husband on Monday night but he did not pick up the phone.

She, along with her son, went to the canter union to see him.

“On reaching there, I saw that Kulwant was standing beside my husband who was lying on the floor. Kulwant was holding a blood-stained stick with which he had brutally beaten up my husband,” she recorded in her statement to the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Kulwant had recently clashed with the owners of a dhaba and suspected Lakshman to have told something about him to the dhaba-owner.

It was due to this reason that Kulwant had beaten Lakhsman to death, the police officials said.

A case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against Kulwant at the City-I police station. However, he is yet to be arrested.
