Voters above 80 to get postal ballot facility in Punjab

Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju today said preparations for the 2022 Assembly elections were underway at 24,000 booths in 23 districts. This time the Commission would provide postal ballot facility to about five lakh voters above 80 years, he added.

Raju was here to review the poll preparations with elections officials of Amritsar and Tarn Taran, SSPs, nodal officers and others. He said the final list of voters would be released on January 5, but before that the draft would be tabled to all parties to record their objections.

Over one million new voters had been registered so far, the CEO said, adding efforts were underway to make young voters above 18, transgender and NRIs a part of the electoral process. He also directed to take necessary steps to ensure facilities like ramps, water facility, availability of toilets etc., in all polling booths. — TNS
