Pathankot, June 29

Bableen Kaur, drug inspector holding charge of the two districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot, was nabbed from Guru Nanak Dev University campus in Amritsar following an FIR registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Amritsar.

Kaur had been on the radar of officials ever since a chemist had filed a complaint against her on the CM’s anti-corruption helpline.

Early morning, the sleuths laid a trap after they got information that she was demanding Rs 90,000 to renew the licence of a chemist shop. The deal was settled for Rs 30,000.

“She had asked Rakesh Kumar, a Class IV employee of her department, to collect the money from a particular place near the Pathankot Civil Hospital. The money was to be placed at a pre-designated spot from where it was to be collected by Rakesh,” said VB Inspector Inderjit Singh.

Rakesh had been instrumental in facilitating some earlier deals too. The sleuths reached the spot and arrested Rakesh. Later, the cops nabbed Bableen from the GNDU campus. Bableen is the youngest among the 40 drug inspectors of Punjab.
