The UP government on Monday denies permission to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa to visit Lakhimpur Kheri.

In a reply to persistent requests by the Punjab Government, the UP Home Department said that due to the prevailing law and order situation, the visits could not be allowed.

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence in the UP district on Sunday.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi along with his Cabinet colleagues to submit memorandum to Punjab Governor on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident at 6:30 pm.

Earlier in the day, Navjot Singh Sidhu along with MLAs and other party leaders protested outside the Punjab Raj Bhavan, against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, before being taken in preventive custody by Chandigarh Police.

Later Sidhu along with other party leaders was released by police.
