An uneasy calm prevails at a single-storey house in Dashmesh Nagar locality, where “cautious” mourners trickle in to comfort the grieving family of gangster Jaipal Bhullar.

While the slain gangster’s mother Amarjit Kaur is yet to come to terms with the reality, his father Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, a retired inspector, left for Kolkata to claim the body of his son. Jaipal’s brother had reportedly shifted abroad a few years ago.

“My son was not a gangster. The circumstances juxtaposed with bad company turned him into one,” said his mother. “Jaipal was a good sportsperson but destiny had something else in store for him,” she averred.

Sandeep Singh, a cousin, said: “He wanted to leave the dark life behind and return home to live a normal life.” Meanwhile, CID sleuths kept an eye on the movement at the house.
