Two members of Lawrence Bishnoi Gang injured in police encounter in Jalandhar

Two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were injured during an encounter with the Jalandhar Police on Sunday morning, officials said.

According to the officials, the early-morning encounter took place in Gulmohar Colony here under the Bhargo Camp police station area.

A police officer is also reported to have sustained injuries during the encounter.

Both critically injured gangsters, identified as Nitin and Ashish, were rushed to hospital. 

Nitin is from Jalandhar, while Ashish is from Hoshiarpur's Bulhowal village .

The duo was involved in murder, extortion, contract killing and drug smuggling, the officials said.

As per information, the duo was tasked with carrying out targeted killings of two individuals in Jalandhar. The accused had conducted recce of both targets.

According to sources, a CIA team had gone to conduct a raid at Nakha Wala Bagh near Gulmohar Colony early this morning after specific information. The cops found a suspicious car parked on a road, and encircled it. The suspects fired at the CIA team from inside the vehicle, hitting a police officer's turban. The police also retaliated, injuring the both assailants.

Weapons and other items were recovered from them, the officials said.

According to CIA in-charge Surinder Singh Kamboj, the suspects were associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and were wanted in multiple cases registered with the Jalandhar Commissionerate.

Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, who led the operation, confirmed that the suspects were tasked to carry out the targeted killings of two individuals in Jalandhar by their US-based handler Jasmeet, alias Lucky, who is a close aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Jasmeet was also involved in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, Sharma said. He had assisted two shooters, Mandeep Manu and Jagdeep Rupa, who were later killed in Amritsar, during their stay in Mohali after the Moosewala murder, Sharma said.
